ADO II (After Blanchot)
2022
Single channel video, 4’27.
Video work, stills.
Responding to theorist Maurice Blanchot’s writings about disaster and inexpressibility, Ado II uses a flood of fragmented text to express the overwhelming nature of catastrophe.
Drawing on the format of guessing games, ‘cooler/warmer’ play framing and WJT Mitchell’s observations around narrative gaps in trauma stories, the work presents memory as unreliable, sticky and embodied.
